    its up and running!!!

    4.8 Terabytes over 5 Hd's, 2Gb of Ram, Dual 867Mhz G4 processors and I'm a happy man!

Just need the graphics card to arrive and I'm pretty much done hardware wise. Then its just setting the machine up.

Thanks for you help so far guys'n'gals.

BTW no pictures as yet. Being a noob to tower based systems I didn't order long enough data cables so the inside is real messy. I think I'll just go for 1 meter length cables and cable tie them in place nice and neat. That will aid airflow as well.

One thing just quickly. As Nap is now working, is the connector that the main system fan normally plugs into throttled? Its just that at the moment I've got the fan plugged into a 12v supply and its running max rpm all the time. I would like to get it temperature controlled to keep the noise down even more.

Apple should never be expected to do something. As soon as we thought we had their iPhone release dates figured out they changed on us.

I think it does look nice. I just hope this is include in Leopard server as well. I would love to run my own mail server with this type of webmail interface.

I currently use the built-in Squirrelmail...and while it works for my users, this interface is would be much closer to what they're looking for.
(Not that us sysadmin really care that much about users :D )

Personally don't get the desire to have push for Tweets. Atleast in my case my world won't come to a screaching halt if I don't get my tweets right away. I have a job and such so I can't afford the time to look at tweets every thirty seconds...cuz...well....I have a job and such. I check them when there is a lul on the action or when I get home.

Then again, I don't have push turned on for my work or personal e-mail accounts either. I want to be in control of my e-mail....not it in control of me.

    Steve

Sure but the point is that with other apps you have the option of having push, themes and more. It's form over function as said before, unfortunately the function isn't what it could be.

Do we all like price fixing ?

Apple products are too often kept at RRP - not sure if its always by agreements with apple - "don't discount more than 10% or lose authorised reseller status"

Obviously good for apple products, but not for the consumer.

Are they going to make it so the ***** "Synchronize Address Book" feature works? That's one feature that I'd like to be able to use and has NEVER worked on the Mac (you click it and it does nothing).

LOL that's such an immature comment from yourself.
Of COURSE they are trying to patch up the Jailbreak holes found by the JB community....
Sure they have bug fixes, but rarely will they go "to fix a security hole that allows users to jailbreak"

so no, it's not "PROBABLY" break the JB.... is: it WILL.
    He was stating a fact.

No, he was stating the reason for the update was to break the JB. That is NOT a fact. He is not privy to iOS planning meetings and unless the update only breaks JB and nothing else, then he has no basis for his assumption.

FCP is definitely NOT the current standard. Avid is still the winner here. I currently run Avid, premiere CS5 and FCP. Avid being my go to. Those of you thinking about switching to premiere, i urge you to look at media composer 5.

Avid has some of the most sophisticated cutting tools I have ever seen.
I've used it back during the Express DV days and was so impressed with how perfectly you could cut with it.
Other programs were more useful for effects, but as an editor Avid was tops.
It's a shame that apple has let FCP slide into such out of date condition.

Nothing quite brings the same joy to my heart as starting a render in FCP and having a look at Activity Monitor, and seeing a whopping two cores in use. Or having to export a QT file first because I can't send directly to Compressor.
Well to be fair, the camera manufacturers are twats for recording to a delivery codec in the first place

I agree 100% with both of your posts. It still bothers me that compressor is the only application that can make full use of both my Mac Pros CPUs.

And I really hate the look of low bitrate AVCHD but we have to work with it nonetheless.

Yes it WILL slow down your device, just a bit. Launching animation will be ocassionally jerky or cut off altogether, as apps struggle with limited memory.

For my money, I recently switched to the vPhone from a June 2009 contract with AT&T for the 3GS. I've given up hope that the iPhone 5 will be worth the wait and resigned myself to 20 months with the iPhone 4 until I'm able to pick up the i6 in January 2013, or wait for the i7 (if it's back to June for 2013) depending on the feature set for the i6.

Honestly, finally having a 3G service that actually works, even if it's maybe a little slower (it's hard to compare, really), was well worth it.

I'm very happy that Apple has finally muzzled their suppliers.

These "sources" should not be revealing parts, and dates, and production info. Given the identical circumstances that occurred prior to the iPad 2 launch, I'd say it's quite obvious that Apple has finally reigned in the leaks.

It was getting very embarrassing that super-secret Apple with their Gestapo tactics, was unabe to keep 95% of the details of new products a secret, because some shmuck in some factory has Internet access.
