Are there options to enable Open Directory Services, NFS, Software Update Server, XGRID? Also, are the Server Admin and Workgroup Manager tools included or replaced with something else?

I'm reading mixed things all over the web on what's gone and what isn't.

    Thanks.

Il get some screen shot up for you in the hour.
There are options for software update server, (im sure but might be wrong that there are some improvements on this for server and clients). theres the xgrid manager (haven't got it set-up)
Didn't notice NFS and believe it or not but am totally confused with the OD Service, I carnt find an option/setting for it but it has to be there.

More server an the start of the profile manager web app.
the profile manager also allows you to remote lock/wipe your devices but you need to have network directory set up which it was, so will investigate later more about this feature.

1680x1050 pixels in the 13" would be nice. Retina is preferable, but a bit too much to hope for... at least within the next 1.5 - 2 years

    You're right,
It doesn't work for me either.

I haven't looked at this for ages, extremeoverclocking probably changed their xml design. I'll see what I can do, but I can't promisse you a fast solution. My daughter and studies take up most of my time right now.

I'll post a working version in this thread, when I come to it. If you'd like to take over development however, feel free to do so.

Thanks for trying the widget :)

That article contains some errors. Shipping rates, for instance, are about the same as they were in 2008 and similar to 2002 so that is a red herring.

I would also question you as to why you think that China is an enemy? They appear to be more like a partner in a symbiotic relationship. You need each other.

    Good points.

I think even though China is a legitimate partner, they are also a competitor and right now they seem to be doing better than the USA. Judging from their increased output, and also with quality going up on many items, if the public buys Chinese goods and keep on coming back, they deserve the business.

I don't see China as a military enemy like the other poster here does. China has far too much invested in the USA both in real estate/stocks, and in customers in the west to be stupid enough to pick a fight with us. Heck, China is slowly owning us so there's no fear of any military surprises there.

If anything, if the real cold war was about capitalism vs. communism, we are the winners since our capitalistic way of life has more than rubbed off on China and they stopped their isolationism and have to trade with the non-communist countries in order to survive. They have made their entire economy dependent on us as customers. The only pure communist country I can think of these days is North Korea and they are hanging on by a thread. So the conversion of China into what is in every way a capitalist nation is a trade I am willing to make if the cost is losing business here in the USA. I would hate to think if they were still run by Mao and viewed us as a military enemy. Also imagine what it would be like if they were dedicated communists like North Korea.

With but $1,500 worth of equipment and some ingenuity, security researcher Chris Paget can create his own cell phone tower.
Here's the catch, however: The tower itself isn't real. It's a fake recreation of a GSM base station that allows Paget to overpower the actual signals from real-life base stations. The end result? Cell phones connect to PagetNetor whatever name he's assigned his creationthinking that they're accessing an actual cell phone tower.
When that happens, Paget can listen in to the conversations and/or record them at his leisure. His devicean International Mobile Identity Subscriber catcherbounces the call to an actual cell phone tower and the user is none the wiser, save for the fact that all inbound calls now go directly to said user's voicemail as the carrier considers the actual phone off-network.

I could see it being beneficial in some cases, such as being used as an access key to identify you or to identify you as the buyer of E-tickets (but at the same time, it would allow retailers to identify you when you walk in the door; which would allow advertising conglomerates to collect even more data on you. Wait until individual aisles have readers - "Dave walked down the toothpaste aisle at Target on Saturday, November 3, at 5:13pm. On the 4th, he walked down the condom aisle at CVS at 9:59pm."

(Seriously Folks, this RFID thing Apple is plotting might not be the best idea.
Apple will probably try to charge retailers and advertising companies, such as
Doubleclick (which will become like the credit bureaus of consumer data), but
it will make George Orwell's 1984 one step closer)

Just got back from Regents! Scored a t-shirt and got Leopard. I feel bad for the people who didn't realise you could go upstairs and check out. The queue downstairs was appalling! I was in & out in about 5 minutes. Then by the time I got out the queue was still all the way down the street!

And yes, the no student discount was bs!

Apple won't use 10.4.10, it doesn't look elegant.

Instead, they'll stop at 10.4.9 and any changes after that will be called a "Security Update".

It's not the first time that the Vietnamese got their hands on an unreleased iPhone. The question is why? It's not like that Vietnam has anything to do with anything.

It's their prize for winning the war. They get advance previews of all American technology.

Talk about some analysist making a fool of himself. T-Mobile's 3G is NOT compatible with any iPhone. They use 1700Mhz for the uplink, 2100Mhz for the downlink which the iPhone 3G/3GS/4 can't do. It's called AWS band, or UMTS band IV. In europe 2100Mhz is used for both uplink and dowlink, it's UMTS band I.

At most what you'll get on T-Mobile with the iPhones is regular EDGE on 1900Mhz.

    All 3G bands are here

Wow! great deal. All out of the 16gb at my local store. Congrats to those that got one. For those lucky buyers, $300 over a two year useful life is about 40 cents per day, or one quarter of the cost of the cheapest cup of starbucks coffee. Not bad for a device that you will probably use about an hour a day.....or maybe more.

There's no such thing as a 'normal person'. The 'normal people' he is reffering to are the computer illiterate. Being computer illiterate dosen't make you normal.

Actually, it does. Everything that you know about computers (or believe you know) as just being natural and everyday, most people don't know those things. Did you know immediately when 10.6.7 was released? Most normal people don't know that. Software Update eventually finds it and they install it.

ummm so can some one explain to me just what in the **** adobe is trying to accomplish?

    Let's review.
    1) Apple announces intel switch, Adobe is there with smiles raving "It's about time!"
    2) Apple releases intel based MBP and iMac, shortly after Adobe releases Universal FAQs sheet saying that professionals will have to wait till CS3 for a universal binary.
    3) Adobe starts cutting out PPC support, but has yet to offer any Intel Support.

Am I the only one a little confused by their actions? So what? neither chip is good enough?

    Or just, uh.... not smart?

Trying to kill planned parenthood = less birth control available = more abortions.

That's just common sense. I know they're all about abstinence being the best option but come on!

It's not the only option. Jees.

How dumb can a party/movement be? Are they just refusing to think more than the one superficially thin layer of preventing Planned Parenthood providing abortions? Is that what they think PP just does?

    I'm so confused.

I couldn't agree more. There has to be a way to implement this. Though, getting the approval from APA, and MLA might be a problem. They want to sell their manuals, and this could, conceivably, cut into their sales.
EndNote and the like don't seem to have a problem. Just imagine an open XML database of references that could be transformed into different citation and bibliography styles using XSLT with a super friendly front-end that can hide the complexity of XML and XSLT for most people, but still leaves all the flexibility there for those that want it, all integrated into Word.

But back to Pages... I think this is an example of a really useful word processing feature that would absolutely ruin Pages. As soon as it tries to compete with Word, the product will be doomed. Apple needs to stay true to the conception of simple page layout app with some decent word-processing features. I still think the perfect comparison is to Microsoft Publisher on Windows. I could use something like that on the Mac.

The main problem with the UI I think is that it is too hard to access things that you want to do all the time. Everything is in that annoying palette with all those buttons, when instead Apple should move some things to the toolbar. I want to be able to change fonts and styles and justification with the click of a button. Also, it needs an equation editor. Until Apple fixes these things, I'm sticking with AppleWorks. Fortunately, I don't feel like I got ripped off because of Keynote 2.
