Knowing Apple there will be a way to turn it off in the OS if you don't want to use it. Also for the totally paranoid, a mod to remove the hardware from your iPhone will hit the web the week it is on the street.
Also, I bet the hardware will be laid out where removing a pair or surface mount resistors will make it that simple to disable separating the antenna from the semiconductor.
Why RFID?
Vending Machines
Gas Pumps
Door locks and passage locks
Home security system thing - let's you know who came to your door etc.
Subway Train Token
Movie Tickets
Digital "tickets" for anything.
Museum audio program guide thingies.
Micro Payment systems
Demographic plotting of people passing a turnstile
I hope people try to see beyond the "evil Gubment" spy stuff.

Me too. And I wish Safari had a "Sure you want to quit?" dialog box for those times when we accidentally do a Command + Q in it.
It does in Leopard...

I've had it about four times that I remember (mostly for reasons that are too embarrassing or simply inappropriate to mention here) and all I can say is lie back and enjoy the ride. :)
I'd wish you luck for it, but you don't need it. :p

Of course it applies. Your assinine response has me thinking you're a jerk. Had you responded in a positive manner, even if disagreeing, my opinion of you would be entirely different. How's that for a simple real life example? Positivity is always preferable to negativity.
But don't you think everyone is frustrated by the little things that the ads pick apart? And anyone who is is anyone who may potentially switch.
I think it's brilliant.

As someone already pointed out, the Army currently uses iPods with translation programs in the field.
The advantage is that they're comparatively cheap, and young soldiers already know the basics of using them.
It's also been mentioned that the Army could use them to display videos of local leaders asking people to cooperate, etc. Plus remote control of robots, etc.
As for visiting Apple, who knows. Usually the military finds a third party company to modify units, but in this case they could be checking to see if Apple was willing to build a bunch for less.

Can't believe aperture doesn't support more RAW types yet.
Until it supports more/all of the raw types, it will never be a real 'pro' application imho

Having OS X far outways the slight difference in hardware performance. OS X is specifically designed for Macs, and optimized to take full advantage of the hardware. No one that has a Dell, Compaq, Gateway...etc... can say the same thing about Windows. The only way that would happen is if Microsoft came out with a special Intel version of Windows or AMD version. Never gonna happen. I know most of you already know this but I just thought I'd throw it out there again.
Windows XP is optimized for both Intel Pentiums and AMD Athlons. You can include optimizations for both and they will be used as needed. Windows XP-64 is also compiled for IA-64 workstations. Apple might have beat Microsoft with the first consumer 32 bit OS, but Microsoft beat Apple with the first consumer 64 bit OS. You're speaking facts and not justifying them; please, next time at least justify yourself.

I haven't read the whole article yet, but from the sounds of it, it seems as though a laptop can be charged without plugging in it. That is the processor that converts heart to electricity could either charge the battery or provide it's own power to the laptop. That would extend battery life, not sure by how much, but if it is a decent amount, this technology would be great for laptops.
Then again there's the heat issue. While the heat will provide electricity, your going to have to have a decent cooling system, which hopefully wouldn't suck to much power. Or maybe the converted power can be used only for the cooling system leaving the rest for the battery, thus conserving power anyways....just thinking aloud here though. :)
It needs a heat differential to generate electricity... that has to come from some place... when the company talks about it being used as power source for running the laptop it requires the use of a small heat source (microburner) that burns a combustible and portable fuel source (ethanol, propane, etc.). This is a feasible product.
In the case of using waste heat given off by the CPU it remains to be seen just how much energy they can recover...

Yep... Considering Apple did nothing to provide a Snow Leopard Server connector for Windows 7 and beyond, kinda makes Apple's server offering redundant in a mixed-platform environment these days... SLS in name had potential... but... whats under the hood isn't up to the quality of the Apple logo.
Great to see some EFFORT on polishing the server. Based on my experience using it over the last 18 months, they would have to give me the next version in order to even consider it... Guess they are :)
I just deployed Windows Home Server 2... And very happy with it at the moment... It seem MS is more than ready for competition on this front...
so you use your server in the home environment? i kind of think that Lion will be fairly decent in the home environment, its user friendly and most of the features that are not included from SLS arent required by the general home user population. turning on and off services without configuration is exactly what most people need :D

Regarding touch buttons, my post above. Regarding pressing the wrong side in the dark, although I have done that a couple of times in the past, I think they make the button concave so you can feel where it is without looking. I (personally) think that a glow in the dark button would look tacky, especially because they glow in that eery green colour. :(
When you are watching a YouTube video, I tend to forget where the home button is. Or when surfing the web for some time while in the dark.
And I don't literally mean glow in the dark like those cheap Halloween things, I'm talking about an actual light behind the capacitive square symbol which has a sensor which turns on when there is a certain level of darkness.
I can easily envisage this happening . It would look fantastic.

Probably not...Remember how Sony didn't lower the sale price of the original PS3 when the refreshed model came out--even though it was higher?
No, it has now been confirmed. At the time I posted that comment, it was just speculated, but Microsoft has now confirmed pricing and availability of the older Xbox.
As of right now, Microsoft is no longer making original 360s. Every 360 they build is the new one. So, if you really want the older one, you only have a limited time until stock of them is gone.
They also announced price drops for both of the older consoles as well. The current Arcade unit is dropping from $199 down to $149, and the current Elite is dropping from $299 down to $249. I would guess those prices will stay like that until the holiday season, and then any remaining stock of them at that point will be cleared out.
