Comparing Apple's achievements favourably to the late and flat-footed competition doesn't make me biased. It makes me accurate. Being enthusiastic about it, however, does make me biased. But that's like being biased toward chocolate. A good thing is a good thing, any way you slice it.
If you don't like reading pro-Apple posts, then you can put me on ignore or hang out on Neowin. Now if you're looking for "blind", you'll most certainly find plenty of that there, plus copious doses of delusion. If you're lucky, they might even give out "there's always next year" and "rounding error" t-shirts and mousepads. :D

Because 3g stood for 3g connectivity. The added S stood for Speed because it got a much faster processor.

I think the UB version is running much better on Intel.
I tried it out on a MBP and a Mac Pro and a new Imac and had much better performance that with my own machine.

iPhone did nothing new. It just took some popular features and combined them. It was more of a game changer due to it being made by apple.

Check out the source code for Xen, and then try to tell me that a Xeon and an Opteron have identical instruction sets....
I'm not going to run Xen. In fact, I'm unlikely to ever use virtuialization technology.
I'm going to run QuickTime, and iTunes, and Rosetta, and web browsers, and code spit out by a run-of-the-mill x86_64 variation of GCC.
And none of those sorts of applications require a re-compile. From that perspective, AMD64 and ET64T are close enough to identical to suit my needs.

This has to be one of the worst Macworld keynotes ever....and there were a couple of stinkers. I mean....where are the new MacBook Pros? Where is a new Mini? Where is an AppleTV with an OPTICAL DRIVE! Nowhere to be seen. What do we get? A new laptop where they charge us more and give us less. I mean...when was the last time Apple shipped a computer without Firewire??? Please! Hell...they should have saved the Mac Pro announcement for today, to add SOMETHING to the awful show. Maybe then my portfolio wouldn't have taken the dive it did. Come on, Steve, is this the best you can do? Where are these new Apple/Intel devices??? My biggest disappointment is the lack of Blu-Ray though. I mean, no new iPod? No new iPhone. I mean....I don't need anything HUGE, just some storage increases. Bad....bad bad bad.

That said, I was laughing at the video.

As for causing the companies damages, remember these guys probably screwed up about 2 minutes worth of each presentation they messed with... We just happened to see it repeatedly, and non-stop. Don't forget those presentations are made every 5-10 minutes every day for 3-4 days... In the grand scheme of things, I have a hard time believing anyone was *really* damaged.
That said, I'm going to be manning our booth at Macworld next week. I'm disabling the IR receivers so nobody comes by with an Apple remote, trying to trigger front row on all our laptops!! :)

Maybe to let us know they're not just cracking down on iPhone owners?
And also maybe to suggest that "open" isn't all it's cracked up to be. The promise of an open system doesn't always play out in the real world. It works well for geeks who know what they're doing, but for the average consumer it can create a big headache (inadvertently installing a rogue program, for instance). It's a trade-off: more freedom vx. more stability.

I have an experiment for those that say "It runs fine on my <insert computer here>."
Open up (in full screen mode) a landscape oriented RAW image and:
1. Use the straightening tool.
2. Try to rotate it 180.

2. Try accellerating to freeway speeds.
Report back when done.
Seriously, you realize that the "straightening tool" is not a free-form rotation tool, right? It's optimized for 1-10 degree straightenings, not flipping the picture around.
That having been said, yes, straightening is maddeningly slow on G5s (also on iPhoto ... I have dual 2.0 G5s, and fullscreen or even windowed straightening stutters all over the place). They've got an algorithm problem there (or, more likely, an algorithm which doesn't check for a "break" often enough, which makes it unresponsive and seem really slow). But, the test for that isn't doing a 180-degree rotation on an image; the test is trying to get a correct 1.25 degree rotation when the tools seem to be fighting with you.
The key is this: they could fix the tool to work perfectly for straightening, and still flipping the image around 180 degrees would be slow as molasses to render. Which is just fine, because the 90-degree rotate works fast as can be.

I believe labor laws say that this is illegal, he won't have to reimburse the store. Don't think they will flat out fire him, but it's a "one more time you are missing even a cent, your ass it outta here" type of deal. If he ever made a mistake in past, they can give him the boot as well. Best Buy is not corner drug store. The pinch of losing 300 bucks for them is not as bad. But the kid might easily be out of the job very soon.

Credentialed people are held to a higher standard. They are trusted to cover the event, not affect the outcome of it. Any blogger or press member should be embarrassed by this kind of behavior. As a writer and an event planner, I'm pissed in every way imaginable.
Agreed. People have argued that bloggers should not be credentialed for trade shows and sporting events because they might disrupt the event. Gizmodo's stunt adds credibility to those arguments.

What's hilarious is that you guys are arguing about beta software and a product that, up until this point, has been a huge disaster. Asking someone to rotate a raw image 180 degrees with a straightening tool is absurd. It isn't meant to do that. End of story.
I am not sure how many of you are professional photographers, but I can tell you that most of us have tried both products and are still using what works best: Iview media pro and C1 Pro (as well as photo mechanic for iptc info in batches). All 3 products have been around forever, and work flawlessly. What's comical, is that running all 3 of those apps concurently, is faster than running only aperture on my powerbook G4, as well as on my Mac Pro.
Aperture is a pig even on a shiny new mac pro compared to C1 and Iview. Lightroom just doesn't feel complete, and to be frank, the way the program is laid out is annoying as hell when you need to get things done quickly (like when filing from a football game, on deadline while sorting through 1000+ shots). It takes all day just to even get them imported into aperture, while I view does it in about 2 minutes. In 2 minutes, I can be choosing selects and sepertating the wheat from the chaff. This is not the case with either aperture or lightroom.

Just wait until this person signs into xbox live, have someone else watch your laptop and the signal, than you and another friend look around the neibourhood. Look for someone playing an xbox 360, look in the window and if you can tell its yours bang on the door and demand for it back nothing illegal about that. Make sure someone else is with you, but be careful I think you're in the States and Americans do like their guns.

Do you believe that the perpetual delay of Microsoft's Vista OS is allowing Apple to temporarily grab up some of the markey share? I'm not saying that people who would otherwise purchase a Wintel machine are switching to Mac because Vista is not out, but rather that some percentage are waiting to buy their new Core2Duo machine (or other upgrade to their current box) until they can get an full release version of Vista preinstalled on it.
Just a conjecture, but I thought it was worth considering. I suppose we'll find out in the first two quarters of 2007 when Microsoft decides that they're ready to release that bad boy on the world . . .

You know what would be funny. What if he is just using this simple house design to calm the neighbors down. They were freaking out about him tearing down the old mansion. Maybe he will build this and leave it up a year or two and then tear it down and build a much bigger house when he doesn't have to submit anything to the association. Seems excessive, but rich people can afford the expensive comedy. :D
