I've just bought a new iMac and am giving my 13 yr old son my 3 year old iMac, so he can at last move onto a Mac. Benefits are multiple for him and for me, but firstly I'll no longer have to provide 'tech support' to a machine I no longer really understand, and which is always a very frustrating experience.
I also won't have to listen to his PC fan whining through the house - sounding like a hairdryer! it's a Dell, and it's been truly disappointing!
Anyway, I wanted to do a clean install on my old iMac - and found this perfect guide. So, thanks very much Hellhammer, a great guide, spot on, and I appreciate very much the time you took to produce it. :)

Seems that YOU erased it. Can probably restore from backup.

Like to see a 3TB , Thunderbolt, user serviceable unit.
For me ( a casual user) 1TB is more then enough for my music and documents, don't really see the reason to update.

1. at the Tiger release did everyone get scratch off cards?
2. ^^ Did everyone receive the 10% discount along with the scratch cards?
3.If I were to buy an iMac that night with the 10% discount can i get that on top of my education discount?
You can't combine discounts, i.e. the 10% card and the EDU. At least not when Tiger was released....

I've recently noticed- some iLife apps are not working. The biggest concern is iPhoto - I've opened up iPhoto '11 (iLife 11) but it says:

However, and here's the catch - iDVD, iMovie, working. Just a couple apps are not working (I can't check every single one for compatibility). Is this a universal problem? How do I fix it? I have iLife '10 and '09 if that helps but I haven't checked if they work. Either way, I would like to use iLife '11 over either older versions... Thanks!

Holding option and clicking "shut down" will bypass the dialog box.
Alternatively, you can press Control + Option + Command + Power/Eject Key - according to this page (http://macos.about.com/library/weekly/aa021400a.htm).

What am I doing wrong? I�m thinking my DNS is set up right� but I guess I don�t know how to set up the web services properly. Ideally, I�d like to keep any tinkering within Server Admin, as I can teach a dedicated volunteer to do that easier than using a terminal command or editing some obscure file.

I have my Xbox doing 1080p thru component and it looks fine. I have not tried HDDVD yet but assume it will be OK.
One thing I did notice, When I had it set to 1080i and a played a DVD, the TV would IDENT the source as 480p, now no matter what I put in the Xbox it IDENTs the source as 1080p.
The XB360 setting will always say 1080p as that's what it is outputting when set to that, but when you play a DVD, it will be 480p on the set over component.
Upscaling DVD is only over VGA or HDMI.
I just tried it and my XB360 switched to 480p when playing a DVD.

I love the white/plastic studio displays, just got a 20" about a week ago :D

Started to play sc2 on my 15 mbp, and noticed this thing gets pretty hot, and since i play for a while every session i wanted to get a laptop cooler.

lol dude. so today at school, i was walking...and I saw some person, with an iPod touch 4 in an iPhone 4 case, with it UP to his ear and pretending to have a phone conversation. I thought I was seeing things, so I did a double take...hahahah, ya...it was real.

Not really. It has the same constraints as uploading a photo directly to MR. Size limit is 1.14MB at 600px by 600px. You could create a custom Export setting in A3 to match these requirements, but you would still need to Export them to a folder on your computer and pull them to your Album from there. Not automatic, but a workaround.
