are you people making this all this fuss over C2D MB's coming out? or is there more expected from the update....like the true ipod video? i dont see how a C2D MB could bring so much excitement....there's not THAT much difference in performance.
If you're reading this Thread ;-) Let me wonder... and what about macbooks of different colors, to match the ipod nano?

Think you're imagining it. Have updated my MB and i still can't hear the fan in normal usage. I expect it will kick in at some time when it decides things are getting a bit hot.
What I don't understand is that i only started getting shutdowns after the upgrade to 10.4.8 and it's associated firmware UG. And it seemed truly random, i.e. shortly after bootup (when the MB was still cool!) or after several hours, which is why I don't understand how a thermally expanding heatsink could be the culprit. If so, then it should always shutdown as the temperature rises to a certain point.
Dunno, just hope this new updater fixes the problem.
Same here.. my MB started shutting down after updating to 10.4.8 (and the fan firmware update I think) It would shut down when I would just start her up.. or, as you mentioned.. after several hours of use. I formatted the drive and reinstalled 10.4.6.. but shutdowns continued. Weird.

I regard this as a loss if true. The Facebook application for iPhone is one of the most elegant I know of in terms of providing function in a nicely integrated package that is also nice to look at. Count me among those who thinks this is bad.

Just got my macbook back today.
They replaced the heatsink (Again), apparently last time they just replaced it with another faulty one because I complained about it taking too long (over 2 weeks) even though they had already come out with another heatsink. This time they replaced it with a better heatsink. So hopefully it hsouldn't happen again. If it's a hardware issue though, I don't see how a firmware update would fix anything.

I don't think that anyone who has A Clue doesn't know this already.
The ilk of people who think it's immune are the same ilk of people that don't understand why their WindowsPC is running so "slowly".
I just resent being called smug.
I also resent blackhatters who are new to the OS X game getting all rightous. Where were they the last 5 years? They're part of the REASON "mac users are so smug about security".
I did not intend to call you smug; I apologize if you took it that way... I was responding to your assessment of how "hackers" view Mac Users/The Mac Community.
I think that there are actually a good deal of people with A Clue (in general) that don't understand much about OS X security. I was speaking with hyperbole--I think a lot of people who do have this clue thing think that it's somewhat hard to write viruses for OS X... Apple certainly advertises it horrendously these days.
As for blaming BlackHatters for our ignorance about security issues, I think that you need to get that clue thing for saying that. And as for smug OS X newcomers, you would do well to remember that OS X is MOSTLY *nix at the base. You don't have to be a hardened OS X developer to futz around in it.

Yes, flash has issues, but there are several sites that I want to use from the iPhone that require it. It would be good for the iPhone to support it.
Can you name off some of those sites and give their web address. Anyone else have sites they can name? I would like to see how much the lack of Flash on the iPhone cripples a web site. - thanks.

... I don't know how processor hungry remote control and front row are, but I do know these users require the most power out of their machines...
The remote and Front Row use essentially no system resources when they are not in use. So they do not take away any processor power or anything else when people are working on power hungry projects. So that's not the reason they were omitted.
So far the best answer I've heard is that the tower will often be under a desk where the remote wouldn't work because it needs a line of sight, but that still doesn't explain why they don't allow it as a custom option.

Uh oh, now you're going to unleash the fury of the autism brigade. Asperger's isn't a personality disorder!
You are correct, sir. The autistic spectrum is not a personality disorder. Uniformed people on here are not understanding the diagnostic term "personality disorder", which are a handful of particular disorders carefully defined by the DSM-IV. The term "personality" is the key word here and it carries with it a specific meaning. And, as someone else has pointed out, in contrast to a PD, autism is a "pervasive developmental disorder".

You may have Windows 7 on your desktop but I doubt if you've ever used it properly. Now I've been a Mac user for a long time and I own an iMac and an MBP but let me tell you this, Windows 7 is definitely much better than Vista.
I really don't want to compare Windows to OSX but after using both Vista and 7, I am very confident when I say that Microsoft has really done a good job with Windows 7. Vista was a disaster though....
What are some of the things you like better about 7 over Vista? I upgraded a few weeks ago and really haven't been able to find any improvements. Even the performance problems haven't been improved (benchmarks) (http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=623235).

No hardware in WWDC '11? Apple always said they are about Software and Hardware, well then it wouldn't make sense for them to omit hardware from the conference.
Or am i missing something?
WWDC stands for World Wide Developers Conference.
That means it's for those of us that are software engineers. It's been that way since it began.
The problem is Steve couldn't control himself last year and confused the newer people by talking about the iPhone.
If indeed they keep it on topic this year, there will be no talk or time wasted on hardware. We only have one WWDC each year, hopefully this year Jobs will control himself.

Anyone else think they'll probably rename the iPod touch to simply "iPod"? I think it makes sense, considering almost all of their products feature multi-touch technology at this point.

iPod 3G was fully touch operated (save for the hold switch).
iPod 4G+Photo went backwards and added physical buttons. To this day they still haven't gone back to the full touch design of the 3G.
The 3G had separate, discrete, non-mechanical touch pad "buttons." 4G+ eliminated those and incorporated them all onto the touch wheel. For you to claim that those weren't buttons is like me claiming my microwave oven's keypad is fully touch operated. Each of the touch pads are a discrete element. I would have thought that was obvious in the context of what I wrote instead of having to be explicitly stated.

i don't understand why some people would long for 12 inch ones when macbook is 13 inches. don't tell me 1 inch will make that big of a difference.
That 1.3 inch is a huge difference, actually. When you are walking around a city every day and needing to stash your laptop in your bag, the larger MB gets annoying fast. The smaller and (lighter?) 12" is much nicer.
Further, the MB case design is not something that appeals to me- it's great for some, but the aluminum housing of the PB can't be beat. And, there is no way I am carrying a 15" laptop around in my bag.
The 12" PB is a wonderful laptop, and I would go smaller if apple made it (hi-res 11.4 widescreen?) As long as the resolution is high enough to do work on, I am happy

Seriously. What happened to the support for the VZW iPhone? All this talk of fragmentation. Now we have essentially the same phone, on different software generations. What gives? I guess we really are the red-headed step child.

It's too bad that these kids will never know how much better sounding a CD can be over 256kbs. I put applelossless on my iPod and when I let someone listen they usually say wow! it sounds so good.
I agree. I think at some point (hopefully) Apple will offer Apple Lossless as an iTunes standard. It will just take a small leap in processing power (CPU or GPU) to convert the files quickly on the fly when syncing. I think we're close, as they do it now, but it still takes too long.
But at 256 I think you get very close for most people to find it hard to distinguish between a Lossless file and an AAC file.

So refrain from doing the same mistake and keep waiting for an upgrade of UNO.

Well, lets see where would they put it? Between Mac Mini and iMac.... you know in that $200 difference. Or maybe between iMac and Pro Mac.... in that what $300 difference. It seems like the Mac Mini bump and iMac expansion have left no room in the line-up for another Mac. Even with conroes... all speeds, sizes, prices are covered. There isn't room for a Conroe Mac. Period.
The iMac isn't a headless mac, so it's not even in the equation. It would go in between the mini and Pro, and fall in the same price range as the iMacs. It's a different product category, might as well say they shouldn't have the iMac since there are already laptops in that price range.
It makes no sense for apple to ignore Conroe, it's intel's best bang for buck right now.
At this point I'm thinking that most updates of current machines will happen before tuesday, maybe the Showtime thing will be when they finally announce a midtower (probably pizza box form factor). Works as a settop box, or any mac can stream to the new Airport video.
And those waiting for MBPs........Start Crying :D :D :D
Nonsense. I still think there's a good chance we see them before tuesday, if not, definitely in the next two weeks.
