That's totally off point, read my post again, there's no need for HDCP over HDMI if you have a DRM that the studios have signed up to, looking at the sept 12th announcement apple have already got everybody on board, im hexpecting a video ipod, new MBP's and apple cleaning up on the HD content providing. As I said before it's the only HD platform that has a user base already in place with the required equipment, sony have loads of probs with supply issues on Blue Ray, no consumers are even close to buying PS3's or Blue Ray drives, no computers have these either therefore Apple can catch everyone out and release HD content through iTunes to a user base that already have the required equipment. oh yeah, 1080p is only certified via HDMI but most consumers are happy to accept 720p as "true" HD and the download times of 720p content over the net via broadband is not too much to ask. My 2 pence...

You see...ATi's integrated graphics solution is WAAYY BETTER than Intel 945 integrated graphics solution, so, it would be the perfect match for a lowcost laptop: Turion CPU and an ATi chipset.

I think there are a lot of factors at play here.
One is that virtually every other company not only has to compete with Apple, but with each other. So they have to cram the most features and specs they can into a product, while making as cheap as they possibly can, in order to stay competitive.
For example, take a MacBook Pro, and find ways to make it cheaper: Well, we can replace the unibody aluminum with a plastic shell. We could remove the backlit keyboard. We could replace the glass touchpad with a cheaper part. Take out the Firewire port. Hey, look what's left: a cheap laptop. Everyone tries to get it cheaper and cheaper so they can outsell the other guys. Meanwhile, Apple puts in whatever they want and charges whatever they want, because they've built themselves up a position where they know people will still go ahead and pay it.
Also, because of the tight competition, companies are afraid to take risks. Remember when the USB por had just been introduced? This was a real chicken and egg situation for PC makers. No PC maker wants to be the first to switch to all USB ports because (a) it will cost more money to put the new ports into the board, and (b) they know it will annoy customers who will have to buy all peripherals. Customers will simply buy the competing brand because it's cheaper. Now, someone eventually sells a PC with both USB and PS/2 ports so you can slowly start the upgrade trend, but it's slow for all the above reasons.
Same for the floppy drive: nobody wants to be the first to ship without one. It would be seen as being "too different" and cause lost sales to the competition.
Then comes Apple with the iMac and its all-USB ports and no floppy. You want an iMac? You're getting USB. You're getting no floppy drive. There's simply no choice about it. There's no competition, either, and Apple is already known for being more expensive so that's not even a factor. Apple decides they want to push the standard forward, and frankly you have no real choice about it (if you intend to stick to Apple).
Then the market opens up (for USB) or perception changes (it's OK to not have a floppy drive) or Apple defines something cool that people copycat, and in all cases Apple's marketing engine claims credit for changing the industry. Repeat something enough times and everyone starts to believe it...
And, to be honest, there's also lots of confirmation bias going on.

This is exactly the kind of dream house I'd want! Quite big but not too big to loose control over it. Everything makes sense in it and there's nothing unnecessary. I wonder what it would look like on the inside, colors, tables, walls, floor, lights and all that.

You're mixing up your kernels. NT 4.0 doesn't share a kernel with 95/98, NT 3.51 doesn't share a kernel with Windows 3.x...
Windows 7 is Windows 7 because it's the 7th release of Windows NT.

I do , I have 140Gb of Photos from my DSLR (and previous digital cameras) putting this on 3 discs rather than 40 discs would be great
I also have 28Gb of music, backing up form itunes to 1 disc rather than 8 would also be useful

It's not only new territory, it's outside their core competency. Like Cisco selling cameras or Google selling phones.
Its this closed minded view that separates risk taking leaders from regular employees.
To prove this, all one has to do is look at Apple's success in portions of the tech sector that they previously had not occupied.

I think the whole issue is about them filming it and laughing, and encouraging it. Not the fact that people were fighting in McDonalds. People fight all over the world, in many places. Should each place be held responsible because someone had a fight? no and yes, depends on the situation. Should each place be held responsible if the staff are laughing, filming, and egging people on? yes and no. Yes for the fact they were very unprofessional. But McDonalds can't be blamed for the fight happening in a restaurant they own. They can however be blamed for the way the staff acted. But can you really expect any less of someone who hates the job they're in, Paid minimum wage, etc. Humans at the end of the day are Animals. We are entertained by death, pain and sadness. We always have been, and always will be. It's in the blood, it's been in the instinct for thousands, if not millions of years. We're barbarians. Like it or not.

This is nonsence. If the average user was interested in just Apple, then why are Apple on a lesser market share for pretty much... everything but MP3 players? How come Android is proving more popular?
You mean all the junk Google flooded the market with in order to inflate their share because they *still* can't make anything even remotely on the level of the iPhone?
Licensing out your OS to anyone that can slam together a box and unloading product via the likes of ZTE and cheap Asian outfits (i.e., the "other" category) is hardly impressive. It's the Wintel way of dong business. Great for pumping up market share, but the profits go to the cream of the crop: Apple. For the rest it's a race to the bottom.

I'm seeing Apple discontinue server services. I'm seeing Apple making silly mistakes such as clock bugs and adding social networks to media players. I'm seeing Apple still not improve MobileMe.
You're seeing Apple hit new milestones and the competition keeping up the only way they know how: price and universal licensing. ZTE releases more Android junk and HTE releases their 20th variation of the same phone and it's crickets. Meanwhile there's so much as a hint of a new iPhone and the industry and market is just buzzing with excitement. The reason is simple: when it comes to Apple, consumer anticipation is in line with expectation.
As for the rest, Apple is following the same formula they always have. It's the ideal of engineering and design: simplify, simplify, simplify. Cut, cut, cut. Then perfect what's left over.
This is what results in record sales. With profits to match.

My understanding is that unlike Windows, Apple offers one (or two if server edition) version of the OS, be the most experienced pro or the new comer you use the same system.
Supposedly Lion is going to combine the client and server versions. This was the case with DP1 but it seems DP2 and onward continue to offer two versions, so maybe they reconsidered.
To the people posting screenshots: You do know that you're breaking the non disclosure agreement you made with Apple when you signed up for the Mac Dev Program? If they track you down, the small print pretty much says they can do very evil things to you. Tred carefully, it's likely Apple will be watching out for people like you.
Apple has yet to do a single thing against the individuals or websites that have now posted hundreds of screenshots. I highly doubt anything will happen, it's just not worth their time to go after every single person taking screenshots. Besides, I'm sure they'd much rather expend their efforts going after people leaking the actual OS.

It's probably been figured out by now, but you can remove your vote (whether positive or negative). Just click the button that you previously clicked to remove your rating. Lets say you clicked +1 but now you want to take that back to make it 0, just press +1 again to undo it.

Look, I feel as if with all the rumors that were flying around about the iPhone, WE pressured him to release the iPhone by Macworld. He did what we wanted. But it was such a large project that he had to forgo releasing other products that we wanted as well. We expected too much of him, and for you to act like that he is an a-hole for releasing something as revolutionary as the iPhone is just plain indecent. </$0.02>

You seem to look at the iPhone as a phone + media device. You're right, it's not the first one. It's not even the first touch screen device. However, you're looking at this iPhone as the sum of its parts when usability has to be taken into account.
If I had the same mindset as you and many others, I could have easily said in "The iPod? It's just an mp3 player with a harddrive in it. A few companies do that already." My point is that you would have never considered ANY Apple phone as revolutionary unless it covered entirely new ground, like holographic video or something. Sometimes, just making it easier for people to do the things they already do is a huge step.
