    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

The iPhone 5 will not be released until 2012. The next iPhone will be called the iPhone 4G.

Until then, any self-respecting journalist should refer to it as "the fifth-generation iPhone."

Thank you, and seriously they are not going to make the jump to Iphone 5 for another generation after this one, that I think is still going to come out on time, with an A5 processor in June. I will be making the move from my 3Gs to the next gen as soon as it comes out. Btw I am not basing my knowledge of a summer Iphone release on the fact that apple has not let me down yet year after year of releasing Iphones early into the summer.

Your logic is flawed. Why would the 6th generation iPhone be called iPhone 5? Apple just got out of the naming sequence and looks like will be following a numerical sequence now. It would be stupid in a marketing aspect to go from iPhone 3G to iPhone 3, as customers would like to see additional things in the name, not the removal of a letter.
    iPad -> iPad 2, iPhone 4 -> iPhone 5.
It makes the most sense, and btw when people call it "iPhone 5" they're referring it as the 5th generation iPhone because it's a faster way of saying just that.

    iPhone = iPhone 1
    iPhone 3G = iPhone 2
    iPhone 3GS = iPhone 3
    iPhone 4 = iPhone 4
    iPhone 5 = iPhone 5

In regards to the OP. I'm very excited about the iPhone 5 now, it seems as though waiting for September will be worth it if we're to see a completely revamped iOS + A5 Dual Core CPU + Upgraded GPU + 4" screen + NFC + possible LTE upgradability.

The iPhone and iPhone 3G have kicked the can update-wise, now it's your turn iPhone 3GS.

The name "iPhone 4G" adds a letter, it doesn't remove one. It allows a 4G phone to be marketed as such, just as they did with the 3G.

Given that Clear Channel banned 4 Beatles songs in the wake of 9/11, the billboard prognostication by R0bert was slightly amusing.

What makes it worse is that the US doesn't benefit from it's imperialistic tendencies aside from a few corrupt politicians and the select defense and oil business. The net effect to the tax payer is negative. The UK at least was smart enough to let it's empire go when it realized that it was no longer profitable.
    Cheers,

    Ahmed

The UK now just helps us out because they are basically our #2. After WWII the United States was the only world power that didn't have devastated infrastructure and economy and had a never before seen military strength. No one was capable of coming back from that, and if you don't play nice with the big dog, its going to bite you. They didn't give up the imperialism, they just decided second in command was good enough. Take a look at the Bush/Blair bromance.

I say new Nanos and iMacs, but hopefully with new enclosures (more scratch resistant iPod, iMac with less chin). Mac Mini might get a speed bump or price drop at the same time.

But the iMac getting Merom before the Macbook Pro... It would make sense updating the two at the same time. I'd love to see the MBP get an enclosure similar to the Macbook. Make them covered with black Vinyl like the Macbooks. Everyone can then choose whether they want to peel the Vinyl off to have the bare metal or not.

I am American. Perhaps thats something the executive team at Wal-Mart has forgotten about. I am free to choose where and when I spend my hard-fought dollars. Though Wal-Mart and its team may be able to manipulate those choices, I will always - ALWAYS - have the choice NEVER to spend another dollar at Wal-Mart. Ever.

I mean what the hell I live in America, not Wal-Mart-ica!

Yeah!!! You forgot the part about world peace and end of hunger....

Yeah!!! You against the world! I suppose you also write to fashion magazines, complaining that all their models have perfect, skinny bodies....

But all kidding aside, without Flash, you must be having a pretty poor and limited web experience. Or, you just hang out on the Apple site.... :D

So, let me get this straight.
    You are for:
Sloppy code, anorexia, bulimia, and famine.

    And you are against:
    Apple and world peace.

    Good choice.

I don't get why everyone is complaining about the icon in the dock, all they changed was the color of the eighth note. It wasn't that big a deal.

That's not true. Unlike the last couple revisions to the icon, the look as a whole also changed. The CD/DVD is different, the lighting is different, etc. I do prefer the old icon.

That said, I think this new version of iTunes is amazing! Who really cares if the icon is not my favorite? The features are fantastic! And I like the look of the actual interface a lot.

I get excited about updates like this because they are free! Computer updates are great, but I can only afford one every few years. iTunes I use everyday, and it's free.:D

And neither is the version of Windows you get with a PC. Restore only. But again, this is not the point.

In this era of WTDs (wax-tramsitted diseases), there will be no sharing of my earbuds!

Perhaps future headphones will have 3 buds: left, right and public? :p

Or (and here's a radical idea) why not put a small speaker on the player itself?

I can say with certainty that it is NOT Intel's nor AMD's fault. Megahertz is a valid benchmark for performance in the PC world. Although it may not be the end all in deciding factors which is faster, it's safe to say that a 1.4 mhz AMD is going to be faster than a 1.2mhz. When comparing megahertz to different architectures, that is where the problem lies. I don't think, however, that megahertz is a "myth". When Apple was close to wintel speeds, it was a good marketing campaign. But now with Apple so far behind, that whole slogan needs to be put to rest. PC's are ahead in all aspects except software.

When it comes to pointing the finger, I think it lies with Apple. Apple should have more of a push with the cpu manufacturers. Instead, it seems like the manufacturers are totally in controll and Apple is forced to sit on their hands. You would think Apple would develop more of a partnership, rather than being just another customer of Motorola and IBM.

In closing, I think Apple, Moto, and IBM all suck. They missed the boat and the best they can do is try to catch up. They ALL lose, along with the Apple consumers.

    Just my $.02

    That would be totally irrelevant.

Except for Apple, they all build the same old PCs. Because they all build the same product, sales can move from one company to another company very, very quickly, as we can see from the enormous growth followed by a very quick fall of Acer. Apple has 9.3%, so the rest has 90.7%. It would be possible with these numbers to have nine companies selling more than Apple. If Apple doubles their share to 18.6%, you still could have four companies selling more than Apple.

Right. My point is that Apple's market share is increasing to to increased sales in PC's rather than other companies' failures. As their percentage increases, the number of companies that could possibly simultaneously have greater market share decreases.

Apple's position in this chart doesn't matter one bit; not even the market share really matters; the thing that matters is how many Macs are sold. If HP takes a few sales away from Toshiba, Apple comes third. But if Acer takes a few sales away from HP instead, Apple comes fifth. What does it matter? (BTW. The IDC report at macobserver shows Apple fourth, with Acer having lost a lot more and coming fifth, not third).

As Apple's sales increase and the sum of the competitions' decrease, Apple's market share has to increase. They can take away from each other but if they are all losing sales then Apple has to go up.

If Apple is selling tons of products, in a market with plenty of competitors, how can they be not competitive? 9.3% of buyers in the USA decided that for their money, a Mac is the best computer they can find.

I see Apple slowly rising to a respectable 15% market share over the next few years. Again, the top market share will likely be below 30% so 15% is very good. 9% is very good. HP may increase market share for a while with decrease overall sales of other windows PC sellers but that won't last. If they break 30% it will be temporary.

There are a lot of haters on this site. And I mean a LOT.

Plus there are a few people who have zero connection with reality. The type of people who ignore COGS, have no understanding of the economics of consumer electronics manufacturing and marketing, and disregard the basic laws of Newtonian physics. Basically, people who live in an effing dreamworld based on an totally domestic American worldview largely based on sci-fi movies and pop culture, with no real world experience as a contributor to a global economy.

It sounds like you are describing a large percentage of Apple users.

To be honest, I'm from Germany and I would never ever pay an extra cent for a product manufactured in the US. The caption "Made in the USA" just suggests "Don't buy me, I'm going to suck". All these products I bought that were made in the US were overpriced and mostly of far worse manufacturing quality than comparable products from Asia or Europe. Just my experience, not that I hate Americans or anything, I like their ideas, creativity, inspiration and stuff, but the rest is better done by other people.

In all honesty, this has less to do with reliability, more to do with weakening your own country in the name of larger profit for select few. I have purchased crappy products from Asia/USA/Europe, and I have purchased durable items from Asia/USA/Europe. I guess its more about particular items design/engineering/quality control.

    Fair enough.

I think that was common sense and wasn't worth mentioning in any context.

I think it was worth mentioning, especially in the context of a discussion on cameras and the quality of the images they produce. It's good to remember that these things are tools and not be obsessed to the point of ignoring the creativity that is required to make these tools useful.

If common sense was more common, the megapixel myth wouldn't exist :)

I can't play more than 1 song before it crashes. I went ahead and appzapped the friggin program and started with a totally fresh install and I'm having the same problem. It plays 1 song and then crashes.

Another thing I noticed is that it misreports song length by a few seconds. It's reporting them too short. It plays out until the end and then backs up a second or two, then crashes.

you can judge me all you want ... my family is both Canadian and American.

I live on both sides of the border.

sorry if I do not support everyone's Anti-American Military views.

Cutting the Military is not for me ... Even though I would have to pay higher taxes, I'd rather scrap all these Government Casinos and Government Bookies we have up in Canada than reduce even one dollar in Military spending.

We're not Anti-military, we're anti-spending billions on crap we don't need. Like extremely expensive fighter jets, as if we get into dogfights with the Taliban.

Most internet users do, yes. 96.79% of them infact (http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/). That site polls (and updates, so no duplicates) PC and Mac users who use Steam.

And going by this logic 100% of internet users use Steam. ;)

I remember reading rumors that there will also be text-to-speech features in the new iPod. If they combine books and this, that'd be awesome.
